Ok, so either you have been there or you are there – fearing that someone will see you working out, shaking your jiggly, or busting your butt!  Or maybe you have a lack of coordination, like me!  Put your arm here, and your arm goes there!  I totally know this feeling. I used to only workout if no one was home when I was in college, then after I met my husband and we moved in together.   I was pretty stuck!  I either had to suck it up and just deal with the embarassment or try to work around my then boyfriends schedule.  Neither sounded good to me, but I had to make a choice eventually.  I sat on my butt for a week then I finally mustered up the courage to work out or at least put my work out clothes on and still sat on butt in fear that someone might laugh at me or stare at me.  Not sure where this fear comes from, but I didn’t have time to sit on a shrinks couch for a year to figure it out!  It was either do or die!  The next day I dressed for my workout again and kindly asked my husband (boyfriend at the time) to not come into our bedroom while I worked out.  I thought at least this would cover me for the first workout and maybe that would tell him not to look at my fat jiggle and two left feet while I was trying to workout.  I made it through the work out and another, and another, and another!  I finally got past my fear of my husband seeing me work out because I realized how good I was feeling after each work out.  Even though I still prefer to not be interupted while working out (not for embarrassing moments but more so I can focus on my form and drive), my husband still walks in on almost all of my workouts at some point.  I just kind of laugh now, but I think back at those times when I was mortified for someone to see me jiggling all over the place or someone finding out I really can’t coordinate arms and legs! LOL.

It’s been a while since I have sat down and concentrated on me (i.e. writing to you all).  I have a ton of excuses…I got a promotion, I have a baby to take care of, my husband doesn’t like to work out, i’m tired, I work long hours, I’m ok with myself like this and the list continues in my head as I finish this sentence.  I am tired of listening to these excuses in my head!

Can you all relate?

Do you find yourself talking yourself out of stuff that you KNOW will make you feel better or make you feel like a better person/employee in the end?

So why do we do this?

Who knows, but do we have to stay this way?  NO – We all can be who ever we want to be including successfull in a career, fitness, or whatever your dreams may be.  There are always bumps in the road on your way to where you want to be or who you want to be and that is ok.  I, myself, was on an 8 month bump and that’s ok.  Today, I am moving forward away from that bump!

Beachbody is such a great company and it changed my life after having a baby.  I was able to lose all my baby weight that was left after doing everything I could to lose it.  P90x specifically was the program I initially used to help me with my fitness goals and I achieved great results.   I truly believe my passion in fitness will help others too.  Yesterday, I started a my P90x journey once again.  I’m proud of myself for making a good decision and hope that somewhere someone else will read this and make a good decision and just do it!  Don’t think about it, just do it.  The more you think about something the less likely you will do it.

P90X promises to make you stronger, but just how strong?  How do you guage it?  This is such a fascinating promise that you just have to have faith in when you start the program.  I am starting week 7 of my journey to the best shape of my life and P90x is keeping it’s promise.  I am stronger than I have ever been.  Let me just tell how I know.

Before starting P90x and before being extremely pregnant, I was always pretty active.  I would run 2-3 miles two to 3 days per week or do other program dvd’s that I picked out to, what I thought would, kick my butt. I have quite the collection of dvd’s for workouts.  The reason I do at home workouts is because we live in an area where there is no gym in less than a 20 minute drive, so the motivation factor was never there to drive 20 minutes to pay to workout.  I figure I can spend that 20 minutes running 2 miles or something.  It works for me.  Anyway, so I was pretty happy with all my other dvd’s and thought they really did a workout justice…BUT, this week I was running short on time and wanted to get my Kenpo in but knew I would not have enough time to complete it.  I had a cardio kickbox dvd from another at home workout company that I had used in the past.  In the past, this dvd would wipe me out completely just like Kenpo, so I figured it would be a great substitute just this week because it’s 37 minutes.

I popped the dvd in, pushed play.  As I was doing the work out, I was secretly thinking to myself “Crap!  This workout is too easy!  I’m not gonna get my burn and now I have wasted the 37 minutes.”  That was just it. Although, I didn’t waste the 37 minutes.  I did break a small sweat but not nearly what I was expecting.  On a more positive note, this just shows that P90X has really made me so much stronger than I ever thought!  At the end of the old dvd, the trainer threatens you with 10 push-ups to finish the whole round, and 10 push-ups seems laughable if you are or have ever done P90X (Maximum reps)!   I did my 10 push-ups with a smile on my face with perfect form.  Wow!  I AM STRONG AND LOVING EVERY MOMENT!

If you would like information about P90X or any other Beach Body programs, please email me katie@katie-schmidt.com

Just an added note:  Did Chest, Shoulders and Triceps yesterday and man-o-man my arms are screamin’ today!  Love it!

This past couple of weeks has just been exhausting to say the least. I have been sticking to my guns on my workouts, working my regular full time job, trying to get my baby to sleep through the night unsuccessfully, blog daily and start my own business. Wow!! That’s a mouthful! I even got an extra workout in on Saturday when my cousin, Erica, invited me to her BTS Kickbox class which was amazing! She is a rockstar and if you are ever in Naples or Bonita Springs, you should definitely try to get into her class at one of the Wellness Centers. I have been nursing a cold for over a month and after Saturday I decided to take a short break from high cardio workouts to help my body recover. Sunday, I laid at the pool and seemed to obtain a good burn but it was nice to just relax! Thanks to my cousin Denny for watching the kiddos!! Monday, I did legs and back on schedule but was still not feeling great. Tuesday I skipped kenpo to recover and wednesday was a recovery too. I think it made a difference because today I was able to Bring It again in full force with Chest, Biceps, and Triceps. Burn, baby burn!! Love it!! I still have the sniffles pretty bad but will keep on my Shakeology regimen and try to eat clean.

Now, for my grand finale to this post….

Day 27 – just going to be honest with y’all.  I ran out of time today to workout.  I decided to sleep this morning and had to work late.  I will getting up at 5:30am to do my YogaX that was missed today.  I gotta get ready for Thursday when doubles start!  Introduced Shakeology to my co-workers today and they all really liked it.  I think it’s so great that there is actually an outstandingly healthy drink out there that tastes like desert!  If only I could talk to the whole world!!

Day 25 started out feeling like a hangover but I haven’t had a drink of alcohol in over a month.  My stomach was nautious, heart burn was setting in, and my intestines were rumbling.  It was not a good scene for my Sunday.  It all started Saturday night when I was exhausted and really needed to go to bed but just couldn’t get up and go.  My husband had fixed his regular Saturday night Jack’s pepperoni pizza with extra cheese on top.  For those of you who do not know my husband, he truly does eat like a 2nd grader on the weekends, accept he’s not a big fan of sweets.  He has pizza every Friday and Saturday night.  I usually do my own thing, which I had done Saturday with a chicken spinach salad.  It had been a couple hours since I had eaten so the hungry bug was hitting me when I saw that pizza, all nice and hot!  I decided to eat a piece and then another.  So two pieces were consumed Saturday night and I paid for all of Sunday and most of Sunday night with food poisoning.  Turns out the cheese my husband used to sprinkle on top of the pizza (because there’s never enough) was not good.  I hadn’t been that sick in a while at least with stomach yuckiness!  I was suppose to do X Stretch which I skipped to just lay on the couch to recover.

Day 26  – Still not feeling that great in the morning.  Stayed home from work but still worked from home.  I got some extra sleep this morning since I didn’t drive into the office, so that was nice.  I was able to have my shakeology and eat most of my meals today so that’s a plus.  I made myself do the Core Synergenics scheduled for today.  I did ok, but still have a weak core when doing the superman-banana and the half boat-bow exercises.  I felt a ton better after having my Results and Recovery formula which is just mmmmm…good!

BabyJade

Jade Emaline - 4 months

Today was pretty busy just catching up on business, household chores (laundry), and shopping.  Complete Kenpo today with greater strength and coordination which felt great!  My daughter and I got to hang out and watch Adell (british singer) on paladia that I had dvr’d a while back.  My daughter, Jade, loves live music.  I get to hold her and dance with her.  She eventually falls asleep and snuggles into my shoulder.  It’s one of those moments that you just tear up because you love ‘em so much!

Education is power so here is a semi-deep dive into what glycogen depletion is, how it affects our body, and why it’s important to feed your body the proper foods.

What is Glycogen?

A large molecule consisting of glucose molecules branching out from a pair of protein molecules called glycogenins.  (definition is from www.spinning .com) Glycogen is basically a complex carbohydrate that is stored in the muscles and liver.  Glycogen is the body’s energy source.  When the body needs energy glycogen is converted to glucose.

What is Glycogen depletion?

Glycogen depletion is another name for carbohydrate depletion for working muscles.  Energy sources are no longer available for the working muscles so the body will end up grabbing whatever the next source of energy possible which could do damage to the muscle tissue and stress on the immune system.  You may be familiar with this with muscle pain after a hard workout or maybe you get sick a lot.

How to counteract Glycogen depletion?

After your workout, there is a two hour time window call the glycogen replacement window.  This two hour time frame represents a highly elevated level of glycogen synthase which is the enzyme responsible for storing glycogen in the muscles.   Carbohydrates and protein are needed to repair the degradation in the muscles during a hard training event.

So immediately after you workout, you should have a liquid form of a balanced amount of carbohydrates to feed the glycogen replenishing and protein to aid in muscle repair.  Why liquid?  Because it absorbs the fastest in your body.  The Results and Recovery Formula provided by BeachBody is an excellent and EASY solution for an after workout drink.  I know, personally, that it tastes like orange sherbert and is such a treat after a hard workout!

Just an added note…Today was my first time doing Core Synergenics and holy cow!!  This is a tough workout.  Half boat…bow…half boat…bow…O-M-G…I found myself needing a lot more room than normal, so I will have to change locations on the next session.  I didn’t feel like I did all the moves so I decided to add a two mile run to my exercise program today.  The run was nice and made me feel a lot better.  I got to catch up on a bad habit of Real Housewives of Miami.  Looking forward to my Shakeology in the morning!

I finally received my Shakeology and I was so excited that I made a video of my first taste.   It really is good and to have all the benefits from the nutrition is just that added bonus!   I’m thinking about having a taste test party, so email me if you want to come over for a taste.  Super yummy, folks!!  You will not be disappointed.

Today was Week 4 start, Yoga X completed and enjoyed!

There was some feed back on the video…not sure what that was.   It’s my first time doing a video.

Order your Shakeology today!

Ok, so you are sitting at your desk, staring at the computer screen around 2 in the afternoon. You are in the middle of a project and feel a sense of boredom, procrastination, frustration, or just the mere fact that you have to work at that very moment and suddenly you get this urge that chocolate is going to be the only fix.  It is going to keep you going.  It is going to make you work better.  It is going to help you finish that project you so want to get done.  Chocolate. Chocolate. Chocolate.  That’s all your brain is saying at this point.  You can no longer focus on what is on the screen.  You are trying now to figure out some way to tell yourself that you don’t need the chocolate.  Drink some water. Have some almonds. Nope…It’s still there!!  Obviously, there’s a need to feed the chocolate bug that has invaded the brain but you can go have a SNICKERS!!  SNICKERS or no-no’s!  Luckily, there is a stash of P90x Chocolate Oh-so-wonderful Peanut Butter protein bars in my lunch bag!  Hallelujah!!  OMG – People these protein bars are like Twix!  There’s a little crunch, lots of chocolate, and a peanut buttery filling.  So good!!  Sometimes if it’s late at night, I will just slice the whole bar in half long ways to have a little treat but still have the good nutrition without all the calories of eating the whole bar.  When you slice it in half long ways, it looks like a Twix!

Click here to fix your chocolate problem the healthy way!

Obviously, you can tell I’m an emotional eater!!  Well, at least if I’m going to eat, make it nutritional.

Today’s workout was suppose to be rest or x stretch, but I love to run so I went for a 4 mile run.  Loved it!  Wish I had my results and recovery afterwards as I read a deep dive on glycogen depletion.  I’ll do a synopsis in another post.  Thinking about doing a 5k when I visit St. Louis in May if there is time.  I’ll be visiting Coach Brandi and Coach Thommy and hoping to get a good push from Coach Thommy on my workouts!!
